Experience:
Project Management experience, Experience of working with minority groups, Experience of working in partnership with external agencies, Sound knowledge of Sickle Cell Syndromes and associated conditions, Experience of delivering training and working with others, both internal and external customers, Experience of working with Local Authorities, PCT's or NHS would be advantageous for this role

Be self-motivated, able to work on own initiative and fully committed to the project and its goals. This is a fast moving role that requires an individual who is a quick learner and passionate about developing. A current driving license and transport are essential for this role.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Identify difficulties faced by people who suffer from Sickle Cell Syndrome across the region
Work in partnership with other agencies to develop integrated policies and procedures
Shape and develop response to service user requirements
Build and develop on good practise of existing policies and partnerships
Liase with other Sickle Cell Organisations in the region and nationally, presenting findings to all relevant partners
Seek funding opportunities
Manage budgets
Promote the work of the project, to build and develop further
Raise awareness of Sickle Cell Syndromes to a wider audience
Due to the nature of the role the successful candidate may have to work hours outside of normal working hours and attend training courses/conferences/seminars as required.
Recruitment of beneficiaries:
The Coordinator must have the skills to be able to engage with the client group at all levels both written and verbally. They must have excellent interpersonal skills with a very approachable manner. They must have the skills to engage service users from a variety of settings and backgrounds and enable service users to participate in planned activities both in and out of the centre.
The Coordinator must be able to tease out Service user’s dormant skills encouraging them to engage with their local community either through work or education, encouraging engagement with the wider community in terms of increased awareness of the disorders and increased support from non sufferers in the day to day running of the project
Day Centre activities:
The Coordinator will work jointly with the Assistant coordinator and other staff to develop and maintain activities running in and outside of the centre.
Volunteer support programme:
Volunteers are a vital part of the running of services with this organisation hence it is the responsibility of the coordinators to recruit Volunteers to help maintain the day today provision of services and the general running of the project. It is the Coordinators responsibility to ensure that volunteers are trained and receive regular supervision, ensuring they feel valued at all times.
Individual Development Plans:
The personal goals and aspirations expressed and identified during 1-1 meetings at the start of our intervention with all of our service users. These are then recorded in a written document and regularly reviewed to ensure that they remain achievable and current, we then work through these with service users either on a 1-1 or within a group setting, normally with a view to service users, improving health outcomes, getting into or returning to, either work or education.
The Coordinator works closely with service users and staff to ensure that IDP’s are implemented and that achievable goals are set and met. Regular reviews need to take place ensuring set goals are being achieved in line with the set targets as specified in the organisations business plan and funding criteria.
Liaise with training providers, employers and small business advisors:
The coordinator needs to take an active role in engaging with all educational and employment settings ensuring they have a clear understanding of the needs of our client group including the impact that a long term illness can and does have on education and employment prospects, i.e. long absences and the impact this has on keeping up with work and the feelings of resentment it can and does generate amongst their peers in an attempt to avoid discriminatory behaviour. Our aim is to be a point of reference for employers and educators when seeking support and information when dealing with our client group.
Project finance planning:
The coordinators should have an understanding of the organisations financial health, ensuring there is adequate funding for the successful execution to run each project, accessing funds where necessary through fund raising events and/or funding application.
Strategic financial planning is an essential skill to ensure the continued development of the services in all areas. A good current knowledge and ability to access funds is essential.
Regular reports for the board and funders:
The coordinator is primarily responsible for ensuring the Board of Trustees and funders are kept up to date with all areas of development ensuring monthly reports are sent out and feedback given at board meetings.
The completion of annual reports to funders is also a requirement and the responsibility of the coordinators.
It is the nature of the work of the Sickle Cell Care Centre that tasks and responsibilities are, in many circumstances unpredictable and variable. All staff are therefore expected to work in a flexible way when the occasion arises.
